We do more than reclaim antique heart pine and heart cypress
logs to produce exceptional hardwood flooring that will last
many more generations. The Goodwin Heart Pine team voluntarily
makes numerous efforts to protect the environment whenever
possible. Our earth-friendly actions include:
- Rescuing our guard dogs from an area
Akita rescue society. Toshiba, Zeus and Tamiko receive the
best of care including acupuncture and swimming therapy.
- Creatively using remnants from wood products
to ensure there is no waste. This recycling includes making
the spacers we used in packaging and sending sawdust to
local horse farms for fresh stalls. Local woodworkers take
scraps for art projects such as wood boxes, many which we
purchase as gifts for clients. Our office manager even uses
shavings to produce our handmade thank you cards.
- Worked closely with Florida officials to establish a
state licensing program for divers who pull logs from rivers.
This ensures the river environment is not damaged
during log recovery.
- Built a two-acre log pond to keep our river-recovered®
logs submerged so that the logs remain in pristine condition
and no damage occurs to the log exterior
resulting in waste. We even stock our ponds with Gambusia
minnows, mosquito larvae eating fish, to provide natural
pest control.
- Plant native plants, which require less
watering, throughout the X acres of our manufacturing facility.
Best of all, we plant longleaf heart pine and bald cypress
both on Goodwin property and public lands.
- We are involved with numerous community environmental
groups including the Local Forestry Task Force and the Old
Florida Heritage Highway Council.
- Work with national groups such as the Longleaf Alliance,
Association for the Restoration of Longleaf Pine, U.S. Green
Building Council, Reclaimed Wood Council and other ‘green’
organizations.
- Provide our employees with drinking water from a high-tech
water filtering system that removes contaminants and bacteria
but not minerals.
