Why Goodwin is Different

Why Goodwin Heart Pine is Different

When compared with other wood flooring companies and other wood flooring products, you might wonder what makes Goodwin Heart Pine so different? Here are a few of the reasons that we have been a leader in the antique wood flooring business for more than 30 years.

  • Material: Goodwin’s River Recovered® Heart Cypress and Heart Pine and antique Legacy™ Heart Pine come from true reclaimed materials. Our woods are much different than today’s pine taken from standing trees—and much more valuable.
  • Recovery: The process involved in recovering these materials is much more involved than clearing a forest. River Recovered® logs must first be found by hand by divers, brought to the surface, transported to our mill and meticulously graded for quality. The divers are required to hold special permits, take specific river habitat protection training and pass surprise inspections. Additionally, our Legacy™ Heart Pine comes from the finest beams and timbers available. These, too, must be carefully dismantled from their previous buildings, graded, transported, and graded once again on site.
  • Process: Once the woods arrive, the true work of creating your flooring begins. After the river logs and Legacy™ beams have been graded, they are sawn, air dried according to thickness and moisture content, kiln dried and milled.
  • Grading: Throughout each phase of the milling process, your wood floor is graded for specific characteristics by a number of individuals. Goodwin Heart Pine is one of the only companies that still abides by the strict standards set by the Southern Pine Inspection Bureau in 1924.
  • Price: When taking these factors into account, we believe that Goodwin Heart Pine stands alone as the premier provider of antique Heart Pine and Heart Cypress wood floors. Because of the rarity of this beautiful wood, it is prized by discriminating homeowners, builders, architects and designers committed to using only the finest materials available. Your wood floor is an investment that will last generations and adds significant value to your home.

We know that you, too, will come to appreciate and understand what makes Goodwin Heart Pine different.
