Ordering and Delivery
Ordering
We will work with you every step of the way to ensure the
quality of your order. A 50% deposit is required to reserve
your materials and begin to work on your order. When your
order is completed, we will contact you to arrange shipment.
The order will be shipped when the balance is paid. You may
pay C.O.D., but be aware that the shipping company charges
a fee.
Special Requests
Goodwin provides a complete line of stairparts and architectural
millwork, as well as wood for doors, cabinetry, fireplace
surrounds and custom furniture.
While Goodwin mills and grades each board to the highest
standards, we often honor custom requests for those who value
the historical imperfections. For instance some logs have
“cat faces” or scrapes where turpentine was collected
on two sides, yet continued to grow. Other clients like marks
such as lightning strikes that healed over.
One woodworker designed a massive river-recovered® headboard,
in which he was happy to leave in the original ax marks and
gun shot holes. Yet another designer used the natural river
worn edges of a curly grain log to create a George Nakashima-style
desk.
No Waste Needed
Your installer may ask you to order additional wood (waste)
for trimming, special installation or other needs. Sometimes
he may order extra in the event some of the delivered wood
is not usable. Unfortunately, some companies don’t remove
defects as thoroughly as others because it increases their
yield and costs. Goodwin guarantees 100 Percent is usable
so that you can save money in the long run.
Delivery
Most popular widths are in stock and can be shipped within
two weeks. However, custom orders often require more time
due to the need to locate, saw, air and kiln dry, and then
process in our advanced moulder/planer mill. To ensure you
receive a top quality product, our staff will work closely
with you to provide anticipated delivery times. When possible,
order as far in advance as you can.
Shipping
We take special care to provide enhanced packaging so your
wood arrives safely. A count sheet will arrive with the order
to confirm the actual footage shipped.
Once you confirm your order, your lumber is dried in our
modern dehumidification dry kiln. After at least 15 days in
the kiln and the moisture content is correct at 6 to 8 percent,
the lumber is allowed to readjust slowly from 130-140 degrees
Fahrenheit to minimize shrinkage in the final product. Your
heart pine lumber is again regraded as it is planed.
We have freight discounts, usually at least 35%, available
from several common carriers that we pass along to you. We
secure the least costly transportation, wherever you are located.
Packaging is done with care by hand. We band flooring bunks
every 18" at no additional charge and we wrap larger
packages entirely in cardboard. (Cardboard provides more
protection than plastic and is a better choice for the environment).
We load the orders ourselves onto the front of the carriers'
trucks to help ensure that your order reaches you in excellent
condition.
We are always willing to provide as much information as we
can to meet your needs. We will work closely with you, your
architect and designer, your contractor, or the flooring installer
of your choice. The entire staff at Goodwin Heart Pine is
concerned with helping ensure that your heart pine floor is
one of lasting beauty.
