only company to offer you the rare and beautiful Antique River-Recovered®
Heart Cypress. Logged 150+ years ago and presumed lost, these original-growth
Bald Cypress trees commonly lived to be more than 1,000 to 1,500 years old. Heart
Cypress is one of only a few remaining prehistoric species. Some reached heights
of 100 feet and were known as the true giants of the southeastern swamplands.
All of Goodwin’s highly prized antique heart cypress products are 100%
heart and at least 500 years old. In 1998, Goodwin recovered cypress logs up to
1700 years old, with one being the largest found in a quarter of a century.
Throughout its eons of adaptation, heart cypress has developed the natural
oils that resist insect and water damage not found in other woods. The feathery
grain and honey hues of heart cypress make it the perfect complement to heart
pine. It was a favorite wood of architect Frank Lloyd Wright and today continues
to be preferred by discriminating cabinetmakers. Our cypress products are ideal
for paneling, trim, fireplace surrounds, mantles, whole slab table tops, exterior
projects and flooring.
